Doug Finch Wood turning

My name is Doug, I am 75 yrs old and been a Roofer for 50 + yrs.

I retired from roofing just over 3 yrs ago finding myself with so much free time wondering what I was going to do. I thought I would check out You Tube for some ideas.

I came across Wood Turning, something I had never done before, after many hours "and I mean many hours " maybe several hundred I was hooked.

 

After speaking to friends and family, I started looking for an outlet, setting up my work space took a while, but within a couple of months I was ready to go.

My wood turning skills have evolved over the past 2 yrs, producing a varied amount of bowls, vases, and various Christmas decorations. The wood that I use is sustainably sourced from a Council wood yard, the trees designated to be removed have been assessed for reasons determined by the Council to be either a danger to the public or for areas being developed. 

 

Having confidence in my ability to turn wood into something beautiful that people want to buy I have this summer branched out to Craft Fairs which have been successful, I have also gained a few commissions.  

I've recently just made some wooden Wands for my grandchildren who are avid followers of Harry Potter.
